Why is the entire internet prompting me to install Flash8?  Did Macromedia change something?

I'm not sure of the exact cause, because I'm not sure what you're seeing, or what you saw before.

I'm guessing your browser is IE/Win, because of the ASP.Net work. (Just a guess, though, could be wrong.)

This browser will usually prompt if it encounters ActiveX content.

If you're seeing *that* dialog, and it specifically says "Flash 8", then I'd suspect you're visiting sites which specify this as the minimum version in the CODEBASE argument.

But you might be referring to the auto-update mechanism in the system tray, too.

Either way, updating to the current version will hide those alerts -- the download is very quick and introduces few system dependencies. Knowing the specific dialog might show other ways to prevent its appearance too.
